I am currently evaluating kbmmw for my employer so I use the trial/CE version. Is it correct that the ToDataSet method doesn’t work in the trial/CE version?(would make sense to disable it)

No… there is generally no functionality disabled in the Community Edition, only things that require recompile on the installation is not delivered (like database adapters for 3rdparty database connectors etc.)
I assume you are refering to the ORM ToDataset. But is it the general ORM or the SmartClient ORM features?
What issue do you have?
