I’m getting quite picky with where I spend my time now on social medias.

Some medias are for open discussions (but mostly for spreading propaganda and trashing each other… like X), some medias are “single tracked” and mostly for one purpose only, like Delphi technical discussions like on Telegram, and then there is the good old Facebook, which is a bit of both, but fortunately in a way that is not (in my view) completely filled with morons.

I hold Darian Miller, an admin on a known Delphi telegram group, in high regards, so that is not the reason I now have left that group.

The reason is that it is impossible to post product announcements without being attacked publicly by people who want to dis the product announced due to political reasons.

That happened today, and my tolerance for that is absolutely zero.

The attacker goes by the name One W (one_w2) which is supposedly a Delphi contributor to Embarcadero for TMemo in the latest Delphi 12, along with another person (X) in the group.

I was first publicly probed by (X) on my post where he chose to advertise a freeware version of the syntax highlighter, that he had made, stating there was no reason to pay US$50 for kbmFMX Professional Edition to get the same.

That is at the minimum, bad form. However… let that slide.

Then his friend One W starts to trash my product publicly, and within seconds in private stating that I am a fool, and that having a Ukrainian flag on my site, will scare away my clients.

You know what One W… people who gets scared away because of my unequivocal support to Ukraine against the Russian terror, can, as I also stated to One W, bluntly and to the point, PISS OFF.

I mentioned to a poster trying to fight my fight on the group, that there was a reason that One W reacted as he did. He is Russian and do not like my stance.

For that I was shortly after called a racist.

That adds on to the people I want to say bluntly and to the point, PISS OFF.

People can PISS OFF, if they do not like me, my products, my stance or the gender or eye color, or hair style or whatever. It is their loss, not mine!

Ok.. now I got that out of my system, I just want to say… I left!

NB… Do I hate Russians? No. Actually I feel pity for many of them, and I feel scared that people who do not fight (vocal mostly) for democracy and let autocracy and fascistic designs seep unchecked into their government, will end up in loss of democracy and their freedoms.

That is in my opinion, worth fighting against!

I have Russian (typically from Russia emigrated) colleagues that I meet on occasion and who have my respect, and there have been many that have contributed greatly to Delphi over the years.

But I absolutely DO hate what Russia has been trying to do against Ukraine. That can in no terms or ways be attempted to be explained or reasoned or accepted in any way.

  1. Well…
I think that’s a overreaction to something that happens often in every forum: politics vs the rest.

    1. In principle you are right. It happened before and due to the (imo very reasonable ruleset trying to keep politics out) I can’t comment on it on the group.
So being feisty as I usually am, I decided that I will not be on social media, where I can’t reply on people ganging up without risking (reasonably enough considering the ruleset of the channel) being “told off”.
I’m not a kid. I have a stance, and I do fight for it!
If people pick a fight with me, I will not be amputated in my options to reply.

  2. Today, the head of German intelligence confirmed: the entire Russian people are ready to follow Putin and support the war. Although this was obvious even without German intelligence. Therefore, hating Russians today is a sign of a smart person who has critical thinking and adequately perceives reality. Russians are not people, they are moral freaks. Take them for what they are and don’t let these monsters affect your life.

    1. I will never go to the extremes of judging a whole people of a country.
That is simply not fair to those who actually have a different opinion and want something else, but just feel unable to do something about it.
I have no issue in calling Putin and his corrupt cronies complete and utter murdering morons.
And there are obviously enough people in Russia that sympathizes with him, that makes it difficult to unpin him and his fellow idiots from their positions.
But there are also many who do not want what is happening, to happen. Some of them fight actively on the Ukrainian side! Some of them are put in prisons or otherwise pressured to keep quiet. And some of them are vocal within Russia, even with their lives being at risk.
Those people have my full respect! Those are the people that, with luck and good will, can end up saving Russia as a sensible functioning state, when all this is over.

  3. Expand it to “Piss off, Geezer!” to inject a little bit of British humor into your insult.
